SMPTE 304 signal

The SMPTE 304 standard defines a type of connector for use in the connection between the camera and its control unit (Control Camera Unit: CCU) for Broadcast and professional high-definition video systems combining electrical and optical signals (copper and fiber) .

The SMPTE 304 connector connects to a cable also built under the SMPTE standard, in this case SMPTE311. Said cable is made up of: 2 monomode fibers, 2,4 or 8 power conductors, 2 low voltage conductors

What signals does it transmit?

This type of hybrid cable transmits video, audio, and control signals between the camera and its CCU, as well as delivering current for power.

What advantages does it offer?

The main advantage is that it allows signal transmission at greater lengths compared to triax cable or coaxial cable without compromising weight or flexibility. The central steel element provides the durability necessary for continuous use in the field.

Where is it used?

This connectivity solution is suitable for broadcasting in stadiums or sporting events and large installations where long cable runs are required.
