Term: IP66

The IP code is a coding system to indicate the protection degree provided by an enclosure (box, flight case…) regarding to the penetration of solids and water. This code consists of two numbers located immediately after the letters “IP” and independent of each other.

First digit: indicates protection of people against access to hazardous parts and against the ingress of solid particles.

Second digit: indicates protection of the inside enclosure equipment against water.

IP66:

FIRST DIGIT 6= no entry of dust.

SECOND DIGIT 6= under influence of strong jets or heavy seawater must not enter through envelope in harmful quantities.
