The SMPTE 304 connector is used for signal transmission between the camera and its CCU (camera control unit) in broadcast and professional video systems.
This SMPTE 304 splice enclosure provides a quick solution for connecting the different signals transported in systems combining optical fiber and copper. This solution avoids fiber fusion inside the box, as both kinds of connections are made using double base type connectors via an intermediate panel (made of extruded aluminum).
When signal transmission occurs through SMPTE cable, the flexibility offered by standard connectors, which can be easily terminated by any fiber installer, is lost because SMPTE connectors require termination by a certified installer, who may not be available in all installations.
Using this distribution box the user would only have to insert SMPTE 304 pre-connectorized short cables into the box that would be fixed on the front panel and at the other end finish the SMPTE 311 cable with LC or SC optical connectors as well as the connectors for copper placed on an intermediate panel. At the rear of the box would be the SMPTE 311 cable of the installation connected by cable glands and also connected to the intermediate panel at the other end.
Installers require this type of solution to avoid fiber fusion, as this direct connection method is faster, easier, and equally functional.
